Volunteers
We know you are eager to get your volunteer hours for the year, but we ask that parents not volunteer in the classroom for the first few weeks as we establish our routines and procedures. There will be opportunities for volunteer time as the year goes on including tasks that can be completed at home.
Homework
Homework will go home in a folder on Monday and is due back on Friday. In the homework folder will be a reading log that needs to be completed daily (Monday-Thursday). It is expected that students will read for 20 minutes each day. The students are expected to fill out the reading log themselves and then it is to be signed by an adult. Also in the folder will be math homework that will relate to what we are doing in class, so waiting until Wednesday or Thursday to complete this homework would be wise. There will also be an additional page of homework tied into reading, writing, or our William and Mary unit. All homework must be completed and turned in on Friday or recess will be missed to make up the work. We will not accept folders back early unless a Friday absence is expected. Please space the homework out over the course of the week keeping in mind your busy schedules and commitments.
Friday Folders go home on Friday and are due back on Monday. In this folder will be graded work, important notes, and school communications. Please make sure you look through the papers, sign in the appropriate box, and return the empty folder on Monday morning.
The Nothing Notebook will go home on Friday and is due back on Monday. This is the parent’s homework. Parents are to respond to your student’s entry for the week with a note of encouragement and then send the notebook back on Monday. Please keep in mind this is about the communication between you and your child and not about correcting spelling and mechanics.
Birthdays
Treats may be brought in for birthday celebrations. Please notify the teacher in advance. Please bring in all necessary supplies (plates, napkins…). We request that you send in already portioned treats such as cupcakes, cookies, Little Debbie treats, juice boxes/pouches. We will enjoy the treats at the end of the day around 2:00.
