Dear Parents and Families,

It is time to clean out the closets, basements, and dark dungeons in search of outdated, dilapidated and defunct electronics. These useful items can be disassembled and rebuilt into sculptures and assemblages to be used as centerpieces at the 2009 Colorado Association for Gifted and Talented Conference. The theme of the conference is Embracing Diversity, Growing Potential. Our students’ work will focus on and express this theme.

How can you help? What can you bring in?

Any electronics you think will be useful:

  • worn out extension cords (will NOT be used again or plugged in EVER)
  • old cell phones
  • Walkman or Discman (you know you have one laying around...they are not making a comeback)
  • toasters, blenders (I will be sure to remove the blades if you forget)
  • old VCRs (they're not coming back either) or broken AV equipment
  • old or broken computer hardware like a keyboard, hard drive, mouse, etc.
  • burned out power tools, broken or dull hand tools
  • broken or unused clocks
  • old hardware like door and cabinet hinges, especially nuts and bolts of any size

Please do not burden yourselves and buy things (unless it’s .025 cents at a garage sale). Monitors are okay, but cannot be broken (nor will we attempt to disassemble as they have mercury and lead in them).

Afterwards the artwork will be displayed at Aurora Quest K-8!

Sincerely,

Mr. Patel
