The Denver Public Library now has on display, in the archives section, information about the life of Rodolfo “Corky” Gonzalez. Mr. Gonzales was born in Denver and served as a civil rights activist throughout his life.
- During the 1960 Presidential election, Mr. Gonzales was instrumental in registering such a large number of Hispanic voters that, as a result, John F. Kennedy carried the state of Colorado that year
- He served the local Denver community in a variety of capacities
- He is probably best known for his 1967 poem, “Yo Soy Joaquín”
This display will be available until September 20, 2009.
Hope you have the opportunity to check it out!
