Looking to get in your 20 hours of volunteer time? We have many needs to meet your availability and interests. Please browse through our current opportunities listed below. Some opportunities link to their own Sign up Genius page. Click these links to access all the specific information you need to get plugged in. This list is updated as new opportunities become available, details are finalized, Sign up Genius are created or as chairpersons get appointed, so don’t forget to check back often.

ATHLETICS 

Parents and guardians receive volunteer hour credits when they attend athletic events. Please see the “Sports” tab for specific schedules and meet events.

 

IN-SCHOOL OPPORTUNITIES

 

Nurse Clinic (Ongoing).  Ice packs are needed every couple days.  (who knew???)  If you are able to help our nurse make these (very simple, fill Ziploc baggies with ice), please contact the clinic at 303-326-1537.

Crossing Guards (On-Going). Looking for individuals to help keep our students safe while crossing our parking lot. Shifts are approximately 7:20-7:45 and 2:30-2:25 Mon-Tues/Thur-Fri and 9:15-9:35 on Wed. Two volunteers are needed for each shift. Interested volunteers must take the APS Risk Specialist crossing-guard training before they can be assigned a shift. If interested, please contact Casey Powell at cmpowell@aps.k12.co.us.

Library (On-Going). Volunteers are needed to work in the library. Must be able to commit to at least one 7:45-12:00 shift a month.  Duties include helping students check out books and restocking the shelves. Training is required. Contact Amy Johnson if you'd like to help at amycj@juno.com.

Cafeteria (On-Going). The school cafeteria is looking for individuals to help out during the student’s lunch time. Duties include assisting students through the salad bar, looking up forgotten lunch numbers and assisting small fingers in opening containers. You would also help keep the cafeteria clean by wiping down tables, sweeping and mopping. Shifts are Mon-Tues, Thurs-Fri 10:30-12:30 and Wednesdays 11:15-1:00. Giving Tree (On-Going). Located in the front hallway of the school, teachers and staff use the Giving Tree to communicate specific items needed to supplement their classrooms to the Quest community. Please stop by the giving tree and see what special needs you can fulfill for a staff member.

Staff Appreciation (April/May). Each year, we like to take a week to thank the teachers and staff of Quest for all their hard work. We need volunteers to help out the chairperson with the meals, posters, and other prep work necessary to ensure our staff feels appreciated. 

Field Day (May). Field Day is a big event that requires many volunteers to run each of the field day stations. Parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, neighbors, high school students or other adults that the students know can sign up to help. PARENT-BASED COMMITTEES

Parent Based Committees Overview. Any time spent participating or attending the following Parent Based Committees counts towards your volunteer hours. Many of these committees were started by parents like you. If you see a need for a new committee that you would like to get started, please bring your idea to Dave Schoenhals at dwschoenhals@aps.k12.co.us.

Accountability Committee (Second Tuesday of every month 5-6 pm, media center, before PTA). At these meetings, we will discuss how to create a positive and supportive culture between school and home for gifted students.  The Accountability Committee reviews the school improvement plan and gives suggestions to administration for improvements at Quest. Equity and Engagement

This committee, comprised of staff and parents, recognizes students and empowers them, ensuring that all students feel they have a voice and equitable opportunities. The committee identifies barriers and ways to address those barriers. Some of our projects in the past have included:  
* Veteran’s Day Ceremony
* Read Across America Day
* Culture Fair
* Holiday outreach
* Buddy Classes

 

PTA SPONSORED EVENTS 

PTA Overview: You do not need to be a member of PTA in order to volunteer or attend PTA meetings. You need to become a member in order to vote on any PTA issues or to suggest new topics for discussion. Membership is $10. Meeting attendance counts towards your volunteer hours. Meetings are held the second Tuesday of the month from 6:00-7:00 and free child care is provided.

Fall Carnival (Friday, September 29th): Aurora Quest K-8 PTA will be running the Fall Carnival again this year. We will need as many volunteers as we can to make this event a success. While we do not have a date set at the moment, the event usually runs from 4:00-7:00 pm. If you are running a booth, each slot is for an hour and a half-or stick around for both slots (make sure to sign up for both slots for that same game/event!). If you start your shift at 4:00 pm, please be at the school between 3:30 and 3:45 in order to get set up. For the 5:00 pm shift, please be at the school by 4:45 pm. Instructions for the games are provided. Games are very easy to run and operate. We need volunteers for the games, ticket table,  prize centers (yes, we will have enough prizes this year for 2 DISTRIBUTION CENTERS!) and to man our concession area. Sign up here to volunteer 

Donuts with Dads (Friday, October 27th): Sign up here to volunteer

Goodies with Grandparents (Friday, November 10th): Sign up here to volunteer Our grandparents are special people too! Let's honor them by providing a selection of donuts and pastries along with some beverages (i.e. Coffee, Water, etc) on this special occasion. We need volunteers to help set up, distribute food and drinks, and clean up. Time for this event will be between 6:45-8:00 AM. Please direct any questions you have to  PTAQUESTREQUEST@gmail.com  

Holiday Shop (TBD December 2017): Aurora Quest will be holding their annual Holiday Shop again in December 2017.  This team helps to transform one area of the school into a special holiday store for our Aurora Quest students.  Volunteers are needed to help set-up the store, work the cash registers, assist the students with their shopping, and escort students to/from the classrooms.  Specific times and positions will be announced as we get closer to the date of the event.  Sign up to be a part of this committee and put smiles on our children's faces in helping them to appreciate the gift of giving this winter!

Muffins for Moms (Friday, February 9th): Help us celebrate that special lady in each Aurora Quest student's lives: THEIR MOMS! We will be honoring them with a small breakfast of muffins and pastries and beverages.  Volunteers are needed to help with obtaining the items for the event, set-up, distributing food, and clean-up. The time frame involved with this operation is approximately 6:45-8:00 AM. Ladies, we have a special group of gentlemen who wish to make this day special for you.  So, please, this is an ALL MALE VOLUNTEER SIGN-UP. Ladies, you do so much for the families and for our children...so feel free, instead, to volunteer by bringing yourself to enjoy some yummy breakfast treats. Sign up here to volunteer

Spring Catalog Sales (Spring 2018): Quest is teaming up with FUNSERVICES for a catalog fundraiser.  This event will be held in Spring 2018. Volunteers are needed to help tabulate sales sheets and money collected, and distribute merchandise to students' classrooms. 

Staff Appreciation (Spring 2018): Our teachers and staff at Quest are dedicated, hard working and are simply AMAZING! In May, one week is dedicated to recognizing our teachers and staff (National Teacher Appreciation Week). Volunteers are always appreciated to help out in planning a theme, providing gifts, delivering gifts and food, as well as other opportunities. If you would like to chair or co-chair this event, sign up under the appropriate slot.  And don't be frightened, the level of support is through the roof and previous chairs of this event are always happy to give you their ideas and plans. Membership Chairperson (On-Going). There is an immediate opening for a membership Chairperson. This person must be a current member of PTA. Duties would include soliciting new PTA members, manning a sign up table at different PTA Sponsored events, and maintaining the PTA membership list. Reflections (On-Going with Regional and State Dates TBD around Dec and Feb): If you have a passion for the arts, please help support Aurora Quest students participate in an amazing national art contest - the PTA's Reflections program. Volunteers are needed to print and hand out awards, organize the entries, participate in the judging of the entries, and help to advertise for participation. PTA’s Reflections is a unique art contest for children across the nation. Students share their inspiration based on a yearly theme in any of the six categories: Film Production, Dance Choreography, Literature, Music Composition, Photography, and Visual Arts. This year's theme is "Within Reach." We need volunteers to advertise, organize entries, judge entries, as well as print and hand out awards. Reflections volunteer sign up

 

Hospitality Committee: The Hospitality Committee provides dinner for the staff and teachers during the Parent/Teacher conference nights.  Volunteers are needed to bring in pre-cooked (when applicable) food items, condiments, drinks, and supplies based on a theme provided (Hawaiian, Mexican, Chili Cook-Off, Super Bowl, etc.)  Perishable items should be brought in between 3:00-4:00 pm the day of the event while non-perishable items can be brought in earlier.  Sign-ups for the theme based event will be sent out at least a week prior (if not sooner) to the conference nights.  Volunteers are also needed for set-up (usually between 4:45-5:15 PM) and for clean-up (usually between 7:00-7:30 PM) DJ and Julie Potter are the chair people for this committee. Box Tops (Monthly). Quest collects box tops in a collection bin box inside the front doors. Please help us out by dropping off your contribution in a bag or collection sheet with your homeroom teacher's name. Your contribution can help win a party for your student’s classroom. We need volunteers to help sort (remove expired/non applicable, separate bonus tops), cut, and count (tally for classrooms for contests and batch in groups of 50 for shipping) each month. We plan to meet as a group near the end of each month. Contact Becca Peters at wrpeters05@gmail.com if interested in these opportunities.

 

Restaurant Night: Many restaurants sponsor schools for a night, allowing a portion of their sales to go towards the school if the school is mentioned by patrons at checkout. Enjoy an evening out with family and friends while raising money for the school. As an added bonus, time spent attending these events count towards your volunteer hours.

 

Skate City (Bi-Monthly): Come help students enjoy a “Quest-only” night. For each night there are the following needs: Fun Bus Chaperon to ride with kids from Quest to Skate City and back (5:30-8:30) and two individuals to work the check-in desk at Skate City (5:45-7:00). After the event, we need people to pop and deliver popcorn to the classroom attendance winners.
